Cracked Alloys

It's a 22 Inch Overfinch wheel - hit a pot hole a few weeks ago and now the tyre keeps going flat.

Had a look at it and it's only a small hairline crack on the inner wall, it's only about half inch long and doesn't appear to be that bad.

@khaos - good point - hadn't thought of that to be honest.

Trouble is a new replacement will be in the region of £700 - that's if I can get em now beings as Overfinch are in the ****e. And all I keep seeing on egay is replicas.

@The Mad Hat Man - thanks for the offer - I got some spares so I'll be ok for now

@dazjam it's not that big :p

well unless you have a puncture as well as the crack. then it has obviously gone all the way thru the rim. which means you have a weak point which will in time spread as you continue to load stresses on it. if you decide to have it fixed do it properly drill thru at each end of the crack to prevent it spreading and then widen the crack to ensure you get a good bead of weld into it. But there will always be a likelyhood of the weld failing. Any welding is going to weaken the alloy around the weld area. You also have the problem of not knowing what grade or quality of alloy was used to make the wheel in the first place. Your insurance won't be happy if they find out. and is it really worth risking your life for a couple of hundred quid.
