Helpless female needs some advice.
Just bought td4 auto freelander 2001 and strange things are happening with the coolant levels!
Been on long motorway trip and found puddle of water forming under car, can't see where it is coming from because of the panel under the engine. Coolant dropped below minimum and when topped up all ok, the leak also seems to stop when the engine is running.
On return trip we stopped every hour to check the coolant and drip situation all ok! but, when we arrived home the coolant level had dropped to min and the dripping is back?
Noticed that the handbook advises to check coolant every 260 miles? Does this mean that they all lose coolant or have I just got a leak somewhere? The fans didn't come on at any time and temp gauge didnt rise over half way???

yes sounds like you have a leak some where but probs only leaks when cooling system is a certain pressure, there are lots of pipes on the td4 so you will need to have a good look around the engine

Have ya bin using the a c by any chance as the evaperators sometimes leave a puddle [just a thought]. . .:)

yes i thought that but did not want to say as she says she has to top up the coolant level

If this sounds really silly then i apologize , but make sure yer motor is level when you check ya water as a slight slope can make the difference tween min and normal. . .:) :) :)

Cheers:) haven't used air con so assume it must be a leak, will crawl under it tomoz and have a good look. Just like to have a good idea what it is before i take it to garage.

Parked it on flat dont worry:D

My first Freelander, but not my last! I love it!

Er wot will ya be wearing when you crawl underneath ? . . .;)

Initial diagnosis is that the Water Pump has gone :( ! My very helpful garage are having it in tomoz to fix it. Will let you know if it turns out to be something else, just in case someone else gets the same thing. :)
