L322 Coolant level

07 3.6 vogue we coolant level message on dash even after new sensor fitted. Any ideas.

Is this on the one your looking at or have you already indulged

Just cos i is fick sometimes, is there only one sensor for the system?

Other thought being, could replacement sensor be faulty? Won't be the first time.

Thats the only fault the seller has disclosed. And he has had it for 3 yrs, the fault that is. I'm very tempted Brian.

How long has he had fault and who did he buy new sensor from? Apparently there was a run of dodgy after market sensors at one point

Thanks you, he has had the message for 3 years after changing the sensor but no coolant level problem.

Humm what about all the ones he hasn't disclosed that he is leaving you to find
if you get one of them you wont have time to go gallivanting of to the sun

I know I'm quite pernickety compared to some , but I wouldn't trust a seller who tells me he's had a fault message for 3yrs and done nothing to sort it. Even if there was no coolant issue, I would keep going until the fault was found.

I haven't met him yet, see what he says after 2 days of sleep deprivation, white noise, stress positions and a hood.

I'm a pussycat these days. A few sessions of waterboarding now and then but in the main I'm a reformed character (honest)

I had this in a BMW E38 740 - The wiring to the sensor had corroded and fecked....

If it works on the same basis as the earlier L322's, the inside of the tank has a float with a magnet on it....the sensor fits up a hollow in the tank that the float runs up and down on - the sensor contains a reed switch as the magnet runs past the reed switch it makes (or breaks) the circuit and brings up the warning.

The float could be stuck, the magnet fallen off, or the wiring to the sensor.....

Have you tried changing the coolant ensuring you use the correct mixture??
Had same issue on my TD6, fitted new sensor to no avail, coolant level was fine in the reserviour, finally sussed out that it was due to not having enough 'antifreeze' mixture within the coolant.

Faults never re-occurred since flushing coolant (3+ years ago!)

Current owner might be a tad confused or maybe think it's all his Christmases come at once, if Alan rocks up and starts draining coolant and replacing with new mixture.
