Driving to work Friday morning when I noticed the heater go cold (not fantastic at the best of times!) and the temp gauge rise to centre (usually below centre at the mo.) anyway pulled into a layby and was surrounded by steam. Cock! I thought, so popped the bonnet, front of engine soaking wet and cooling fan going for all it was worth. Luckily I had some water & coolant in the back. So I poured that in which revealed the problem, the plastic clipped together joint at the front of the engine (TD4) had come unclipped.
I clipped it back together and was able to proceed as the FL seems to be running ok…
I like to think that due to weather being quite cold at the mo. that helped, but time will tell.
I had a good look over that joint earlier and it's all intact.
Had the rad changed a while back, but I'm sure I'd have known about it before now if that joint hadn't been fitted back together properly.
Will be keeping a close eye on it and may well lash it together with some cable ties…
