I was driving home last night and I noticed a smell of coolant. By the time I got home and turned of my car steam was coming from under my hood. I let the car cool off and than this morning I noticed the coolent resovier was completely empty. I filled it up and started the vehicle and the coolent emptied again any suggestions.

hiya , coolant cant just disappear it has to be going some place , it all depends on how much you lost last night , it could have been a good few litre`s hence when you filled the header tank it all went , carry on filling it until it reach`s the level mark and then run the car until it get to normal running temp the top it up .
then you can look for a possible leak , dont forget to check the drivers side footwell for being damp as that could well indicate the heater o rings are shot and need replaceing .

it seems pretty obvious you have a leak! the good thing is if theres steam present it probably leaking out as opposed to a head gasket/block problem.
fill it to the correct level, run till hot and pressurised and then have a look for your leak............

I continued to run the car until I could see that the leak is coming from the middle of the car and fast any ideas to what it could be.

can you be a little more specific in the description of the location is it from the front , the rear , by just saying the middle of the car doesn`t give people much to go on at all   .
if you have a good poke around under the bonnet you should be able to see something if its leaking as bad as you say it is , but make sure you keep the water level pretty much topped up if possible.

yea sorry too much beer me thinks

its kinda like saying i was driving along had a crash, anyone know whats wrong with my brakes?

Lots of different reasons are possible, but in my case it was a split in the small U-shaped pipe from the back nearside corner of the block, just below the inlet manifold. Pig to replace.
