convert 1.8 engine to diesel

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the 1.8 petrol engine with a td4 or di engine. I have a 1999 1.8 petrol freelander with 122k on the engine the body is perfect. thanks

hI mate, im lookin to do the same engine swap, but cant find any one who has undertaken this job, im also contemplating v6 and also need to find out info. how did you get on with your swap??

Sounds like a big job to me. Would the engine mounts be in the same place for instance? Wiring looms may need to be added/removed. ECU needs replacing. Very big job, no wonder no one will attempt the job. I bet if the money was right some one would undertake the mamoth task.
@V8mate. Why don't you just buy a V6 Freelander? I'm selling mine you know 40k miles on an X reg (2000 model).

Just to complicated ,ok the engine would not be a problem but all lecy controls and bits fer ya diesel,plus more weight to the front ,na forget it you would have to be a rocket man to attempt it ,[eh] the final cost would outweigh going out and buying one, have heard there a real decent v6 for sale on here. . .
