Considering changing tyres, some advice would be nice!

While I do very much love my Copper STT Pros (285/75/16) at motorway speeds they arnt exactly comfortable plus these days I don't find myself in deep mud as much as I used to. Spend more time on green lanes, sand and occasionally mud.

With that in mind I was thinking of switching to A/Ts specifically the Copper S/T Maxx or the BFG KO2s in the same size 285/75/16. Which would be best for loose sand, greenlaning and the like? Thought would either do well in the mud?

I quite like Cooper tyres they've always served me well, plus looking at the comparisons they do better on fuel and are slightly quieter.

i got fitted a set of cooper at/3 tyres , can't hear them at motorway speeds , don't drone like some tyres do

they are M & S tyres and feel there a good compromise being half decent for greenlaning whilst also serving me well on the road

very good traction on wet roads and also good in snow

mine are only 235-70-17

went to setyres in crayford , they have to order them in , mine cost £90 each , balanced and fitted, they are very competitive

I'm eyeing up some 225/75/16 ST Maxx's for my D1 at some point but the disco is a second car for me so I can accept a bit of a compromise. If you're not in the brown stuff too much I'd imagine the AT3's or similar would be a good shout. Mine currently has fallen landair ats and although I have nothing to compare them with I can't say I have anything negative to say about them, pretty impressed at what they are capable of and no road noise to speak of.
 
The only thing with going for an AT is. If you find yourself on a muddy lane, they might not cut it.

Op I'm not sure exactly what vehicle you have. But if it's a 90 or similar. The. Road manners will be improved with a smaller narrower tyre and with less offset on the rim. I.e. More like stock.

Thread pattern will likely dictate how much noise however.

Personally I quite like the look of the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.

@300bhp/ton 04 110 DCPU. Ideally want to get the same size tyres as I currently have. Road manners are fine with my current Pros. Those tyres look similar to the Coopers

@AdamD1 occassionally i do find myself in the mud, which is why i thought the S/T Maxx would be a good mix, slightly more off road biased but still an AT.

@gstuart they look good but I dont think they would be aggressive enough for me!

i'm very pleased with them, never had cooper tyres , am use to bridgestones

for the first few hundred miles they were abit twitchy , but after that were all good

when we had a very small amount of snow i took mine out to see how they performed , noticed plenty of cars spinning there wheels and getting stuck the disco remained planted and felt like there wasn't any snow at all

only had a little bit of greenlaning so haven't put them through there paces

can't hear them at all even at 70 mph, no droning , so happy days

keep meaning to see what country originally designed cooper tyres , plus don't know what the average mileage is to get out of a set of these tyres

If you do the rotation on them 60k miles easy or a little more. Me I run them until the steel shows, as long as they hold air, good to go.;)

thks, sounds good regarding the mileage u can get out of them

must admit i've never kept a tyre that has showed any sign of metal , apart from it being extremely dangerous and also if the police ever saw that it would mean points on ur licence along with a fine

never fancied playing russian roulette with tyres :eek:

That might be the case in merkinland, but over here on the sensible side of the pond, we aren't allowed to have less than 1.6mm of tread, you know, the knobbly rubber bits on the outside of the tyre (correct spelling) showing. We must have at least 1.6mm of tread present over threequarters of the width of the tread face.

couldnt agree more in what you've said and just had a look and see it's 3 x points per tyre and if lower than 1.6mm tread it can be £2,500 per tyre , gulp
