Connecting filler petrol hose

Hi again everyone. I am trying connect a new filler hose on my 1969 2A. Is it just brute strength or is there a trick to it?

Also, the replacement one seems longer than the original. Should I have cut it?

They are as tight as hell, warm it up first.

Leave it in some very hot water for a few minutes
