Condensation in rear locker

hi ive got a 3 dr hard/ softback and over the winter when the hardback was fitted i noticed a excessive amount of condensation in the rear lockable compartment ..... the book says that it can get hot here but the amount of condensation produced is unreal .......
has this happened to anyone else or does anybody know a solution ...
 
Mine was also wet on a 5 door - also steams up a lot in the interior when wet weather. (Disco never does somehow). Anyway, read a tip about running aircon to demist which works a treat and toolbox area also stays dry. Live and learn eh? :)
 
I left the toolbox door open for a few weeks to allow it to dry thoroughly - then drilled a few small holes in the lid to allow it to vent.

All is fine and dry now
 
this silly cubby hole is jist
a ****e design ,i drilled er 20mm hole un put in a electrical ip rated compresion grommet, un a lenth of flex tube bout 4 inches long, acts as a breather un stops water comin from out ta in. . . .un yes it works. . .
 
The problem is that the exhaust back box is right underneath it - overnight, especially in winter, the car is full of cold air - you start up, the exhaust gets hot and the damp air trapped in the box condensates.

As I said, I found a number of holes in the lid have cured it without the need to drill adrain hole in the bottom.

Only drilled fairly small holes and stuck some black mesh underneath - with the mesh and the fuzz of the carpet you can hardly see the holes.
 
why does it do it though...? is there a leak or something ... am i being thick ? just dont understand how so much water can be produced!!
 
Sometimes can be result of a leak from rear windo or tailgate seal but more often than not it is purely condensation. Some have partially cured it by carpeting the inside of the lid - harder for condensation to form on a carpeted surface as opposed to a smooth hard plastic one
 
I have removed the lid and use the space to stand bottles (pop, washing liquid) or crates of lager steady as I drive home from the supermarket.

They do say to open the lid and leave open if the temperature is over 80 degrees F. As soon as you pull off tho it closes!!
