 Hi everyone, after doing various work on the Disco & thinking about the work on her that will "present" itself to me in the future, plus various diy around the home I've decided to buy a compressor & the airtools I need now & when the need arises.I want to leave it in the garage and use a retractable airhose reel to reach the work without dragging the compressor with me.Can anyone reccomend a decent compressor size (TANK CAPACITY,HP etc) for what I will need to do this job & also what are these in-line oilers/regs etc?do I also need one of these,I want one that's not tiny but also not mini sub sized!& how do I determine what airtool will be compateble, sorry for the essay but I really don't have a clue.Any advice or experiance of these is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

if yer using airtools like ratchets and nut guns you ewill need a 100 litre tank otherwise you have ter keep stopping fer the air to build up. for the general use you will give it just get a small inlne oiler, about 5 quid from mm. get an air hammer too, well worth the 20 quid when yer building a landy ;)

get yerself a 100litre tank with a two horse motor.;anything smaller is a waste of time.. if your gonna be using it lots go fer a bigger tank as fer oiler/regs and stuf it depends on what tools you get .
i'd suggest a pressure reg with attached water filter fitted and if yer using rachets and air guns get an oiler .

100 litre tank would be about the minimum, but thats not the issue here. You need to check the air consumption of the tools you'll be using i.e cfm (cubic feet per minute in old money or litres per minute new money) then add on a bit and buy a compressor at least that output FAD (free air displacement). This should ensure your not using it faster than the compressor can supply it.
I bought a 14cfm with a 3 hp motor and 150litre tank (from Northern Tool at a good price) it just manages to maintain 50psi with the air chisell / needle gun. Chisel supposedly rated at 9cfm. Other tools like ratchets, drills sanders etc done usually use as much. Get a drip oiler and set for about 6 drips per hour. Oil tools before use as recommended. Always drain the compressor tank regularly to avoid rust. I put a few squirts of green oil in the tank every 6 months or so, to emulsify any moisture. If you going to be spray painting you'll need a dryer / water trap just before the spray gun.
Hope this helps.

see you've done got all technical on him now, i got a 100ltr tank 3hp belt drive twin cylinder and it copes with all me tools, cept the really meaty ones which means a gotta stops every so often but that just give you time to take a quick breather...dunno what the cfm is....cost wur about 160 squid ish
