Dear All,

After having a bunch of issues with the wiring of my Landy, i decided on a Sunday night to rip off all the wiring out of the car and start from scratch my way rather than following endless wires which change color every inches due to previous’ owner DYI.
I know, not really recommended, but as this car will stay with me, i know what i have done and how i have done it (and it is documented). However, i am having issues to identify the indicator stalk cables function. I.e. what does each wires do.

I am trying to find the wires for the right and left indicators without passing via the cumbersome relay. I want to wire it straight to a flasher unit.

So far, this is what i found with my voltmeter but i am not sure this is correct.

Buy the way, this year, we are off to the north of Sweden before end of march for a little 2000 miles journey but towing a 1978 caravan. Just to drive on the ice roads :) if you call me crazy, i will not be offended.

See you on the road.

At the end of the day we all suffer from DIYers at the age we have. I hope you pulled it out and labeled it so it can at least give you hints along the way.

What cumbersome relay?
Pretty sure the Purple is a 12v supply to the functions on the stalk, you should then be able to identify Left/Right function.

The cumbersome relay is the warning light switch which cause a lot of issues from what i read. I also think that just identifying with the ohm meter should be enough.

I would highly recommend that you buy a can of electrical switch cleaner like Super Servisol, and give every connection a squirt before reassembly. It will remove corrosion and also assist disassembly in the future.

Thanks, but all wires and connections are new. And i sprayed those as i mounted them.

If you mean the hazards Shirley it’s a legal requirement? But then we have no idea of your laws or the age of your 90.

Yes an ohm meter reading would work, but as you said you were having problems I suggested the common feed in then it’s easy to find the “outs” for each function.

So a wiring diagram for the year would help, plenty around.

The tell tale light will work as long as you don’t put/use LED indicators.

You can put a simple hazard switch to link left/right cables and gets bulb to flash

What year is the motor? Have you got glass fuses?

Are you saying to use a hazard switch in place of the indicator flash light Phil? Where does this get wired into? 🤔

Regarding the lights, i changing everything to led including a new flasher relay. I plan on wiring a simple switch for the warning lights. The car is from 1989 and originally fitted with a td engine and now a 300tdi.
