The 2/3 seat on my 1997 P38 4.0SE would not fold past the first position - not releasing from the central catch bar.
I used an excellent set of instructions (which I can't find now) as to how to resolve it, but have a comment that might help.
The centre catch is operated by the inboard seat end mechanism via a round tube with crimped ends, that fit onto rectangular stubs. In my case, the T40 bolts on the end mechanism had come loose, so that end stub was not engaging with the tube. You can't just tighten the bolts unless the tube is aligned with the stub. Comment: DO NOT PULL THE TUBE OUT AT ALL, OR IT WILL COME OFF THE INBOARD STUB AND IS AN ABSOLUTE SOD TO GET BACK INTO PLACE. Don't ask me how I know. Eventually, tube fitted into place, bolts tightened, works a treat. As it happens, I did not need to remove the seat, but now I know that if the bolts are loose, just get the tube into place and tighten them up - no need to remove the seat etc etc.
