Hello everyone,
with these cold nights we are having in the UK now i was wondering if anyone knows what the (motor running) noise is that comes from my TD 4 engine after i turn it on first thing in the cold mornings and also continues running a few secs after i turn of ignition (still in cold mornings on short trip)
I have heard the td4 has an (additional small warmer up engine) that also has it's own exhaust system, maybe it's this.(it's designed to pre-warm up the main engine quicker i believe)
Any ideas people....... ????????

Hi djaj,

It is most probably the Webasto Fuel Burning Heater you hear, it is located behind the fender at the passengerside, there you can see the small exhaust pipe coming out. Under a certain temperature and until the cooling water has reached a certain temperature this device helps warming up the engine. When it's cold enough you can see the white smoke coming out of that small pipe (right hand side down when you face the car, just in front of the lefthand front wheel). Take care.

Hey Thanks Will,
I think it's that too,i guess that's what keeps running a short while after i turn the ignition off.

Hi djaj,

If you hear it run after engine switchoff just hold your (bare) hand under that little exhaust and you will feel the heat coming out, that will give you the certainty it is indeed the fbh. (and not the cooling fan for the ecu box).
