Coilover shocks and leaf springs.

Hi!

Is there any reason to have coilover shocks when you have leaf springs
when lifting your Jeep?

And no I do not mean to have a conversion but to have both.

The only reason I can think of is to protect the shocks no need for
limitators and stuff like that.

I have seen this setup on a lifted Jeep but I am not sure why anyone
would do that.

Well if you want twice the load support you would need twice the spring,
double leafs or leaf/coil or whatever else you can come up with.

Is a poor design. In general, the shock tower of a truck with leaf spring is
not strong enough to support a spring. It would fatigue and break
eventually. My guess is that the leaf spring had worn out, so the owner
installed coil over on the shock to compensate.

They are usually use to try and increase load carrying capacity.
Unfortunatly, they don't work very well. The surrounding frame and body
area is not built for carrying that kind opf a load, and soon breaks.
And the additional springs rates make the suspension stiff.
