The clutch on my freelander doesn't seem to want to disengage at points. I first noticed it going up hill this morning. By taking my foot off the accelerator and dropping into neutral then back into gear this works but it seems to jump once changed (from what i think the synchromesh) trying to catch up with the change. Any ideas what to look for. It doesn't seem like a new clutch, more to do with pressure or the springs to me but I may be wrong.

Many thanks

Jack

I'll have a look at that thanks

Had someone suggest it could be the dual mass fly wheel... this sound more probable?

Cheers Jack

Check the bracket holding the clutch slave cylinder - it has a habit of fracturing and bending. I have one for sale if you need one - i thought that it was bent on my freelander, but i found that the clown who fitted my new clutch three years ago had put the clip holding the cylinder to the bracket on the wrong side!

Turns out this needed a new master and slave cylinder, clutch plate and clutch.. was biting where the fabric had torn the from around the rivets and I the cylinders where causing the clutch to not disengage. Just for future reference for the next person.

Best of luck

In other words the only thing that wasn't changed was the clutch pedal , think I would be asking them for the old parts;)

Believe it or not I know the bloke who owns the garage and I did half the work myself after work using his ramp (with supervision where needed), the cylinders were long gone (slave basically fell out the damn gearbox) and the clutch plate fabric was torn from the rivets in places hence where it was biting all of a sudden. The bit I was dreading was looking at the flywheel condition but it was fine just needed a bit of emery paper and it's as good as new.

SO from how i understand it the knackered clutch plate was causing the biting/jumping and the fooked master and slave cylinder were causing it to not disengage/engage gears
