Clutch Problems

Hi,

I cannot change gear with the engine running, i can change gear with the engine stopped, i can start in gear no problem. Master cylinder fine, i have removed the spring from the clutch inn the cab and there is still considerable pressure on the pedal, the pressure plate and release bearing seem fine. I have now removed the gearbox, pressure plate and clutch, seems as if the clutch could have been stuck to the flywheel and pressure plate?.

Shoud the surface of both the flywheel and pressure plate be shinny, not showing marks of the clutch plate stuck to it? What could you clean these surfaces with?, Is it ok to oild them to presevent rust?

Should be shiny I'd think as the clutch plate is rubbing against it

If the clutch has seized on to the plate and flywheel it must have gotten very wet as not dried out

I cleaned the flywheel on mine with wd40 and a wire brush although a flap disk works too

Would just buy a new pressure plate as they're not too expensive

Replace the clutch as a kit (worth doing if the gearbox is out) polish the flywheel with the finest wet and dry paper or some wire wool and make sure the drain in the bottom of the bellhousing is clear - someone may have left a wading plug in it which has trapped water inside the housing. DO NOT oil the clutch pressure plate or flywheel, they should stay shiny with use. A stuck pedal could be the pedal pivot, the master cylinder, the slave cylinder, the clutch operating mechanism or the clutch itself. Try depressing the pedal with the bleed nipple open - if it goes to the floor the problem is beyond the master cylinder and vice versa.

You'll need an alignment tool or something to make sure its straight new bush too

Good advice from all above, also check that the friction disc isnt sticking on the drive splines, they can get crap / rust on them which stops the disc releasing properly causing enough drag to prevent going into gear.

New pack will come with assembly red so should lube it up fine
