Clutch prob

Hi all! I did a search on this but couldn't find a follow up to what the problem could be..

1997 disco 1 300tdi

Top half of clutch travel has no resistance, biting point seems to be in the same place if not a little lower, it bites well.
Once you release the clutch it comes up half way then either stays there or comes up after 10 seconds or so.
I don't seem to have lost any fluid though! Reservoir is still full.

From what I've read I'm thinking master or slave cylinder?
Or the dreaded fork on its way out?
If you have had this, what was it?

Just had another look the fluid is very dark, but comparing it to brake fluid it looks same in colour..
 
Bled the clutch today it was back to normal for about half a mile, then gradually went back to its old ways! Would this suggest a slave / master cylinder problem or a worn fork?

Fork looks expensive to get replaced :-(
 
if you have bled the clutch and all was well, i would doubt it's the fork and would go for what has already been mentioned. master or slave cylinder .

Thanks Ron :) it was all well after bleeding but only for about 6 gear changes :-( ah well I'd be really happy if it isn't the fork :)
 
Just got disco back from garage, new slave cylinder fitted, feels a lot better, although a little play on the top half still, but say that it does return to the top!

But I did see a sh*t part van leave the garage as I arrived.. Wonder how long this cylinder will last :rolleyes: :doh:

Haha thanks Ron :D do disco clutches normally feel quite soft until halfway down? Guy at garage said its normal for discos... :confused:
 
only ever owned two. and both were pretty firm.but as long as it works stop worrying and enjoy it. if it's a bit spongey take it back and ask em to re-bleed it, they are a pain to bleed properly so could be that. is the garage a landrover garage or just a general one.

Ah okay, well the garage is a land rover specialist, so I'd hope they know what there doing, I just took the disco out and I'm happy with it :) just gotta sort out welding and tyres now :D

You can adjust the pedal to come up higher.

There is a concentric bush at top and you just loosen it, turn it and it brings the pedal up:)

Thanks for that I'll have a look, drove a td5 defender recently couldn't believe how little travel the clutch has on them!
