Clutch Pedal Box Overhaul

Evening, All.

I’m about to replace my clutch master cylinder and want to overhaul the pedal box while I’m at it. Do I need a trunion and bushes? Is there a handy service kit? It all seems pretty worn in there, so I’d like to refresh the box while it’s out.

Dom, I've just completed rebuilding both brake and clutch pedal boxes. All components are readily available from the usual suppliers...there are plenty of clutch master cylinder kits though there's good argument to buy a new TRW unit outright as they're not expensive and if there's any internal wear to your existing unit the wear will still be there one seal kit fitted. Re trunion/bushes, mine didn't need replacing, just a proper clean and re-grease...but bushes are available here

Have you got the later box with the over center type pedal assist spring? If not, buy a used one of them and you'll have a lighter clutch.

Thank you. Yes I’ve got the later box, but the trunion and bushes are worn. I’m a bit woolly on what bushes are needed, although it’s obviously one trunion!

I bought a brand new Puma clutch pedal box including the assist spring and master cylinder for £60

lt came from a company called Twisted Automotive, who sell a lot of “take off” parts from Defenders they’ve modified, so no issues with stolen parts, you could try them to see if they have any more.

One thing, if you do get a Puma master cylinder the clutch switch needs changing if you have a TD5.
As it operates the opposite way on the Puma.
