Hi Guys - So, first post i guess....had my trusty 97 d1 300tdi for a few years, served quite well...anyway...today jumped in it today, went start her up..pressed the clutch down...and booof....pedal went down....and heard the sound of something metal hitting the deck. Pedal stayed down. Anyway, went underneath and theres some sort of pin on the floor. See attached fotos.

The looked at the MC, no fluid dripping, if it was the pushrod of the Slave, thats enclosed, so i dont think its that...im hoping the fork hasnt shat itself...so any ideas where to check...i can think its the clutch pedal pushrod...which i basing on having looked at some diagrams on line...

Any and all advice will be really welcomed....car is currently on side of road...hoping it maybe a fairly easy fix??

Just for additional fun..Im in oz....

Thanks everyone

Thanks guys appreciate the quick replies - so would that be a slave cylinder swap / pushrod replacement?

Any idea how it dropped on the road underneath the car?

I was just re-aquainting myself with his videos, such a fantastic guy hey

It should not be able to fall out…
Unless you have a big hole in the bell housing. Or the bolts have fell out the slave cylinder

soooo...just popped underneath (its morning here lol) ...can report that it looks like the slave and maybe the dampner) are just swinging in the wind - actually just nested in amongst all the other things down there...so some bolts have come undone.

Will be back down there later on to try and take some fotos.

So...feasible to pop the expelled rod in and fix it back in place to enable me to get it home or would it be more prudent to do a kerbside slave swap?

Probably was at some stage - My trusty disco doesnt cause me too many issues, so i didnt think to go there, as this site come up...I got on here to ask..

From what i can make out then...MS bolts must have came loose and fell out...which allowed the fork pushrod to spring/ pop out - plastic clip seems to really only be there for fitting purposes... I'll assume the fork isnt ...forked...i checked the invoice from the last clutch job (ouch still hurts) and they put a reinforced or "heavy duty" one in....Anyways - ive seen a few descriptions to get the clip in...copper tube? ( im more visual so quite following that...) and another with some bluetack. I'm guessing the blue tack allows the round end of the pushrod to sit in the fork groove whilst you get the MS fixed on?

Sooo...update one bolt still in tact...the other must have flew out over time...crazy hey... anyway, bolt seems to be a m8, 12 or 13mm head for the socket size and the thread length is showing at approx 17 maybe 18mm with a 4a5mm thick head. Not sure about the pitch.

Off to get some grease and my tools - apparently grease should keep it in place whilst i offer up and attach the SC.

attached the bolt for curiosity
