Hi Folks, forum virgin so please be gentle.

Have recently acquired an annoying whine from the gearbox/clutch, sounds like a za za za za za za sound with a little bit of vah vah vah vah vah when stationary and revving the engine. When clutch depressed the sound goes, when moving it sounds more like a za za za za za za with a tah tah tah tah tap tap getting louder the faster I go.
Had the engine out last year to replace failed clutch fork arm and replaced clutch plate and thrust release bearing and have only covered about 10K since then,The gearbox was replaced 2 years ago for a recondition Ashcroft unit and has only covered approx 18K. Have had a transfer box fail before but sounded quite different to this!!!
Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received.

Thanks Stig, thats what I wanted to hear - can't afford another gearbox rebuild - I'll replace for genuine part this time and not aftermarket cheapo!

If it goes when the clutch is depressed, its not the thrust bearing. If its present when the ain gear box is in neutral with the clutch released, its probably the gearbox input shaft bearing. Speak to ashcrofts about a warranty repair!

I'm having the gearbox AND transfer box replaced today,it started as a slight rattle last year and got worse and worse. It stops when the clutch is pressed, turned out to be the bearings in both boxes.Though I'm sure somone could tell me otherwise now I've bought the new(second hand 3months warranty)ones.
