THERE IS NOISE COMING FROM THE PROPSHAFT WHEN DRIVING I TOOK IT IN TO A GARAGE AND HE SAID HE THINKS ITS THE COUPLING.(LOOKING ON THE INTERNET IM SURE THE COUPLING IS IN BEETWEEN THE REAR AND FRONT PROPSHAFT.? IM NOT SURE HE IS RIGHT. IF I JACK THE FREELANDER UP AND TRY TURN THE FRONT WHEEL THERE IS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE PROPSHAFT WHICH HAS 6 BOLTS CONECTING. YOU CAN SEE THE PROBLEM PART FROM THE ENGINE WHEN THE BONET IS UP. CAN YOU ADVISE ME ON THE PART I NEED??

Check threads on VCU a few people have posted diagrams of the complete drive chain. If its the bit bolted to the bottom of the engine rear of gearbox, it sounds like the IRD. I would check everything else first though as its expensive !!!

You say there is noise coming from the propshaft. When you turn the wheel but exactly where is it coming from? Is this produced when you get under the vehicle and pull or twist the prop?

I get the impression that you are describing the propshaft connecting to the IRD but it's not clear if this is a loose joint or a problem inside the IRD.

Meanwhile...
There are two tests of the VCU:
The Ashcroft test invoves jacking a --REAR-- wheel up
The Tippex test is putting a blob of paint on the propshafts before and after the VCU.

Cheers
