Hi all,

Just got a 96 Defender 90 300Tdi last week, have noticed a significant clunking and clinking sound when the clutch is disengaged during braking and gear changes, but only at low speeds, up to 12-15 mph.

The same clunk sound can be reproduced when the Diff Lock is engaged.

The clunk happens in any gear, in any ratio, even in neutral. I haven't taken it anywhere yet, hoping I am missing something simple, but if not, I am assuming it will be one of the joint or the Transfer box.

Thanks,

Chris.

look at prop ujs and slides first ,feel for play in diffs ,you can remove pto cover off rear of t/ox and pull input gear out and check splines ,if one worn, both gear box mainshaft and input gear will be,you can feel any endfloat in intermediate gear when input gear is out ,it can be taken up by tightening nut on outside carefully ,

Yebbut now he's got an answer, everyone else can let rip about what a good introduction to the forum his first post was, how well he seems to fit in, and we can all wait with bated breath for the chuckin' out of dummy when he gets the **** taken ...

Yebbut, I came here for an answer to a mechanical question, if you think I am going to make some kind of emotional connection to this forum, I am afraid you would be wrong.

You however seem to have done just that, transferring your vague social life to this website. Make sure those school corridors and nice and clean for tomorrow.

Thanks, will have a good look around, Will come back with some answers next week.

Classic symptoms of the re-uptake inhibitor being worn, need to look at changing your basal synapses.

Awesome stuff man, by the sounds of things you probably know your way around a butplug. Try shoving it down your throat, it'll stop all that **** spewing out.

If you haven't got the common decency to say hello then you can **** off and get your answers elsewhere then dickwad....

What the hell do you think this place is? Your own personal expert advice site?

The arrogance astounds me

My apologies, Hello.

The truth is, I know **** all about this stuff, and wasn't expecting to be pushed down by people here just because of that. Out of 3 replies, only 1 has been helpful, and I am very thankful for that.

Sorry for seeming arrogant, but you weren't overly welcoming.

Heh, so spitting your dunny pretty quickly eh?

It's no secret I'm a caretaker, I love it .. but it wasn't always so .. and my social life goes way beyond this forum .. ;)

All you needed to do is to introduce yourself. say where you are from and be reasonably nice about it and I would have offered advice too, check my posting history. My post above, if you can comprehend what you read, isn't actually getting at you, it's giving you a clue what to expect ...

But now I just think you're a ****.
