hi Guys,

I've got a pretty subtle clicking noise from under the off-side wheelarch, it gets more noticeable on turning.

I feel fairly confident it's the outer CV joint, as the grease has leaked out of the rubber gaiter, however someone has told me that it could be the IRD on it's way out. If it's that, surely the clicking would be coming from the centre of the vehicle.

If it's likely to be the IRD, I'm going to take out an extended warranty to cover it.

I'll replace the CV joint gaiter this weekend for starters, as it's a cheap job.

How do I check the CV joints and the IRD unit?

Cheers

Andy

Just drven it again and there seem to be two clicks... one very quiet one from the nearside front wheel arch and the slightly louder one from the off side front wheel when turning... very puzzled...

Please, oh please, don't let it be the IRD on the way out!

FFS calm down Drew  my moneys on yer CV joint
Test it by driving full lock backwards should be more obvious then.
And its the cheapest option especially seeing as the boots gone and its chucked out the grease or filled it wi crap.
swap the joint, that should sort the problem,If theres still any noise then you need to look a bit further,Inner CV or the other side CV ;)

If that dont sort it ,It could be yer IRD, :D jokin :p

Going to bust the clip off and fill the CV joint boot with axle grease this morning... that should at least set my mind at ease that it' the cv joint... while I've got the car up on ramps, I'll check for the other CV joints and stuff.

If only I didn't have this stinking hangover! Rather large night on the town last night and don't remember getting home... if anyone can fill in the details, I'd be most grateful!!
