Looking for my first LR, seen a nice RRC 92 plate with 92k on a J plate for £1695 with 12 months t&t, seems very clean, had a respray but well done, 4 brand new tyres, underneath looks very good for age. Only problems visable are headlining and a leaking swivel joint. Is this an ideal daily car or should I go for a Disco 300. Economy not an issue only do about 4000 miles a yearThanks Martin:)
 
I ran my LSE as a daily driver doing about the same mileage and it was by some distance the best car I`ve ever had. If it is HPI clear, has a decent service history, reasonable mileage. and you can do basic maintenance yourself it could be a good buy.
I`d check the chassis , inner wings, rear arches (particularly the C pillar. rear arch join), the seat belt mountings and the floor very thoroughly for corrosion. Both tailgates as well - they all rust, its just how much and how fast.
Also all the electrics - don`t expect it all to work but so long as the non -working items don`t matter then it is a 20 year old car after all. If there is no advisory sheet with the MOT you should make sure there were actually no advisories - they are next year`s problem and at this price it doesn`t take much to make a repair uneconomic. Get some insurance quotes as well before you buy, its gone a bit stupid this year
If its your first RR - be prepared for an addiction, nothing else drives like one or feels like one
 
You're asking the converted on here! :)

If you can do some spannering yourself (even just the basic servicing and maintenence), it can make a good practical daily driver.
If you don't want to get your hands dirty and rely totally on garages for everything, it might quickly become a moneypit

Thanks for info, I can do usual servicing and most jobs myself ( if I've got the enthusiasm for it), have done with vehicles we own at the mo, 20 year old Micra, 8 yr 307 and 9 yr old Boxer, non been near a gargage for 7 years other than mot' but dont like modern ecu etc:rolleyes:
 
You will struggle now to find a classic that hasn't got sagging headlining, ive heard that you can get a brand new 1 on eBay for around £150
 
look all over the whole car including under carpts and under the car for rust with a hammer and a screwdriver. be brutal!

your paying fair money there so dont buy it unless its good, there are plenty out there atm and will keep on doing so untill petrol comes down in price or it snows :D
 
Also check suspension. Sagging springs, duff dampers, etc. Check play in steering, check ABS working properly. Light should go out after 5mph. Does the pump go off before 45 seconds?
Also check the fuses under passenger seat. Had faults there with centre fuse.
check centre box on exhaust for major rust. they tend to go on the top of box and burn the rear foot well carpets.
check for rust under battery trays and behind head lights.
