Hi

I've just bought a P38 which is pretty much perfect (surprisingly) apart from the smell of old cigarette smoke that is all pervading when I switch on the air-con...not nice, really.

I'm assuming that the filters must have absorbed the smell over the years, but I don't know where they are or how to get to them to check.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

And when I do locate them, is it a fairly easy job to clean them, or should I just replace them?

Cheers

Jon
2000 P38 with LPG (and it actually works!)

Firstly I SMOKE!!.. so, if I sell a car the first thing I do is go & buy a couple of bottle of that cheap copy prefume & "Chuck it about" liberally on the seats carpets & head linings.

Then get one of those little Spongy "Pan Scrubbers" & pour the remaining perfume into it & hang it over the Air vents with a bt of string & then turn on the AC at full tilt........

So far not one person has commented on a "Smoke" odour in my cars....in fact usually they say it smells like a TARTS HANKIE!!!! .......

NEVER FAILED YET!!!!

Or he can always start smoking and contribute a lot more than his fair share to the tax revenue like i do.

As a smoker too I always end up de-fuming my cars before I sell em. I find a good hot day and a large bottle of fabreeze liberally applied to all soft trim/seats/carpets generally does the job. Smoke actually tends to be easier to get rid of than doggy smells. I didn't think there were any filters in air-con system, apart from pollen filters, which only tackle in-coming air so shouldn't be contaminated, but air-con systems that aren't regularly used generate a nasty niff, which can also affect your health (flu like symptoms), so a can of air-con anti-bac, as previously suggested, is probably a good idea, or if your not confident in doing this yourself there are firms that do it. I know my old-man's just had his done, after a month of fluey breathing problems.

After ten pints of strong lager. Go and get a good strong curry. Morning after drive around in vehicle with windows shut and fresh air off. Smell of cigarette smoke will soon disappear.
