Anyone know who has the best deals on AT Tyres. I'm off on a trip in March and need six of the bad boys for some 16" alloys.

I never buy expensive tyres now as a £180 tyre punctures as easily as a £70 one.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good make

i've had these kind http://www.camskill.co.uk/m64b0s237p119044/Yokohama_Tyres_SUV_4x4_Yokohama_G012_Geolander_AT-S_Yokohama_G_012_-_255_65_R16_109H_TL_Fuel_Eff_:_F_Wet_Grip:_C_NoiseClass:_3_Noise:_75dB and was quite pleased, i'm driving much on motorways and bitumen but going into mud or snow when necessary... i couldn find another lot locally when i changed them and went for Dunlop Grandtrek AT3 which are a bit expensiver, better on road but not so good on snow or mud..., for stock suspension in my experience, for mainly on-road driving the best handling is with 255/65/16 tyres, i've had 18''s but got rid of them quickly , i also can recommend the Hankook Dynapro, see this list maybe you like others more http://www.camskill.co.uk/m64b0s237...yres_-_16_inch_R16_inch_-_255_65_16_255_65R16

Maybe not directly relevant but... I've been impressed with the Yokohama Geolanders on my Nissan X-trail. I've just swapped it for a Disco 2 and will puit Geolanders on it when needed.

Just a couple days ago I bought a set of Yokohama Geolanders GO12, so far I'm very impressed and for the price very good value. I bought them online from 'Black Circle', they give you a choice of garages that can fit them local to you. You can pay monthly over a year, I didn't use this facility but it's useful if you're a bit skint.

I don't know if you can get them in the UK, but I'm really sold on the Hercules Terra Trac II. The best tyre I've run for the money spent. They are $40.00 less than the Cooper AT III per tyre with a better warranty.

If you are driving in sand, which I presume you will be in a desert then I would suggest having an air compressor with you so you can inflate and deflate your tyres as and when needed! i'm currently getting my now redundant compressor used for the rear airbags converted (hopefully it will work).

I was looking at diff locks the other day, the air compressor to power them can be used for extra things like blowing up your tyres

Yep, one of my mates has that set up in his Pathfinder. I've thought about diff locks also, but so far I've found my winch to be better. I have been stuck in deep mud with the axles grounded and the wheels stuck in a rut and I don't think diff lock would have helped me anyway.

I think they would help if you was going through a deep bog / soft mud. Either way, once your axels have grounded out there isn't really much else you can do.
