Hi there, long time no speak as car has been off the road for quite a while. I am trying to get me P38 back on the road and hoped someone in the know would be able to point me in the right direction for a value set of tyres, running standard 16" rims. I am looking for the cheapest option possible as I am not doing any mileage and funds are tight due to being on furlough

Can you mix and match brands and levels of wear as was considering a part worn set due to the low mileage I will be using the car.

I fitted hifly tyres to me 110 when I was skint and I've been very impressed, don't need good wear as my mileage is generally low.
Considering them again for my newly acquired P38 and they do them in the 18" that I need, don't know if they do your size though.

What size are you running and how much do they want for part worn? I used to get part worns on the C70. Only because she did about 1k mikes a year , and I trusted the guy sourcing the tyres. The Range Rover I've never thought of it but did have a chat years ago with same chap, as he was saying it was best thing anyway, as there are tyres available in cheaper brands for around the same as part worns. It all depends if you are a label queen, or not. :)

If you mix different wear tyres then it may make your diff(s) work harder due to different rolling radii but dont think it makes that much difference.
Although I would not do it

Cheap tyres on a 2.2ton 4x4?

Nah..

;)

Part worns?

I understand your point but cheap tyres are a risk. As gold and enners say, quality part worns is a way to go.
We had **** cheap rear tyres and at 40mph the back end broke away in a bend and cost 1000€ in parts... Not angry with the last owner at all. Nevermind.. There are only four 8x8" patches of grip on the road for your bus. What ever you choose is your choice but get the best you can afford. ;)

I think it all depends on 'cheap'.
Costs less than the big names, but still rated for the vehicle: not a 'you're going to die' situation, and would do for an MoT , whilst gathering more cash for a brand that makes your belly warm.
Part worn: wouldn't be my choice on a Range Rover, not even from my trusted guy.
However, no matter our own thoughts, we are not @EntropyUK , but we do know his wallet is a tad stretched, which means cheaper tyres. My personal choice in this situation would be less expensive, brand new, over part worns

Which brand did you go for? Blackcircles have brand new Yokohama starting at £60ish, which is less than any part worns I bought for the Volvo, and she has been gone about 3yrs

I get being skint, but I'd seriously try and find the extra twenty quid a corner to fit mid range at least. And I read a report a while back that said some horrendous percentage of part worns were lethal.

Yokohama or nankangs. Both good makes. I'd like the yoko g14s but they don't make the originals any more.
The previous owner had put Westlakes on the rear....

Ive had no choice before in the past with tyres... Ricken tyres are good.. I've had mich' tyres, Goodyear, Bridgestone and whatever tyres... Some shït and some good.... Not even snobby about tyres.. Even had next to fûckall to spend on our cars...

I went for the general at3's, brilliant all rounder and off roader with limits. Now on hankook dyno pro 2. The generals gave me 40.000mls and four years. As long as everything is setup correctly.

I've never heard of Westlakes. I used Continentals for over a decade, mainly because they were well spoken of in Germany. I then went to Michelin. Then it became a case of whatever tyre was available at time, that was in the 'big' names. Then changed to 4x4s and the dance started again o_O

Ebay. Or you're close enough to borrow some of mine just to get your ticket.

I've got Falken on the Jag and they seem pretty reasonable at a reasonable price depends how skint you are.

My Nexens were £80 each fitted, last set of tires i payed £105 for 4 brand new (farroad suv) and my son fitted them, money was tight at the time but they have been ok

If you mix and match, the only legal catch is directional and non-directional tyres. They cannot be mixed on a driven axle. Otherwise, I'd say look on FB market/eBay/etc, when the wife needed some cheap tyres for MoT, we got a set of 5 16" alloys with tyres for 80 quid. They weren't the best, but legal. Make a handy stopgap until you can out something better on.

[I run UniRoyal Rallye Street, at about 100 a corner, depending how cheap you mean by cheap. Pretty good tyres, been on for at least 5 years, can't complain. Before that Kuhmo of some description, they were about 80 a corner, although they went 50p shaped pretty quickly, 3 years in maybe.]
