I am considering building a powerfull off roader. I have been down the
Land Rover route before , but the good old rover v8, much as I love
it, doesnt pack the punch I want. So, the only alternative is a bigger
engine. I intend to build a compliant but simple suspension system,
Land Rover coil type?? and light , practical bodywork, Land Rover
again ?? Maybe RR chasis, 100".
The big question is, engine and transmission options. I want a
big reliable v8. Small block Chevy or Ford comes to mind , at least
350 ci and to use the matching transmission and axles seems sensible
(370 + lb ft and Rover wont mix) Im pretty well convinced this is the
right way to go as Ive popped the odd diff and gearbox with the Rover
engine before now. Id like manual transmission, but I've had no
experience with Yank vehicles so any suggestions as to which vehicle
to use as a base ( Jeep, Bronco , Blazer, etc) would be appreciated.
Advice from american vehicle owners will be much appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.
