Hi
Should prob change my name to "one born every minute" but bought a 1991 Defender 90 and it transpires chassis needs quite a bit of welding.
Does anyone know someone reliable who could do this anywhere near Edinburgh?
I tried the local independent land rover garage Whites Auto Services in Dalry but they apparently don't do welding.
Need to get it sorted since already in fairly deep and have fallen in love with the beast. Always prefer a referal - and wish to god I had paid for a full survey but then again I would probably never have found one.
Also, does anyone know where I might find the original list price for it? It may be worth making it a company vehicle but apparently tax is based on original cost - daft or what!
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Malcy (still smarting)

Hi Discomania
THanks for info. I know front outriggers need done since my guy mentioned this specifically. Have also checked and new seem to be relatively easy to get. He has also apparently marked areas on chassis (with Tippex since he didn't have a chalk!) but I have not seen marks yet.
I will try and get a look tomorrow and see if there is any way I can helpfully describe them.
I could get through to Glasgow OK since it seems he reckons it is "reasonably safe" but would not pass MOT.
I will try to get back to you tomorrow. Thanks and best wishes

There's a guy I used to go to in Broxburn "Alex Lyndsey" coming from the Forth road bridge if you go to the big roundabout where you turn left for the airport instead take the Broxburn road, as you come near to Broxburn you will come to a "Y" junction take the right hand fork and about 20 yards on take a right turn, this leads into an industrial estate follow the road up till I think there's a roundabout and go right there, after that Im not sure think it was near a big Scrappies so you may have to ask around, its just small lock up type place but all the guy works on is Landrovers and he knows his stuff, but bear in mind I have not been there for a few years now.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I have now tracked down a couple of places in Edinburgh that may be able to help. If they cannot then I will come back.
Hopefully it will leave me at least on arm and one leg once done!
Best wishes

Malcy
