So what do you guys use to help keep the old chassis from rusting? Is waxoil any good or are you just better off using normal paint?

I was just wonderin meself the other day what the best way to treat em was, and thought what was needed was a substance which sets like rock and is impermneable to air, water and detergent, and stays on forever. The only answer i can think of in this respect is Dried-On-Weetabix, so i've ordered a bulk delivery from Asda!

Seriously though, it needs to be something that is relatively flexible and bars air and moisture, there are high zinc content paints which some say are quite good, Waxoyl needs to be done regularly as it flakes off, the Cleantec chap generally gets bad reviews for missing lots of important bits, but the most important thing i recklon is to get the mud off it as quickly as possible as the mud holds the moisture on it - using LOADS of clean water.

Good luck, it's an uphill struggle!

hi all, ive just wire brushed mine and coated with rust converter,followed by two coats red oxide primer and then two coats of nu speed gloss paint, will then coat inside with waxoyl so hope that gives good protection:)
 
So how about a good quality black metal paint sprayed onto a clean chassis e.g. hamerite smooth?
 
Hammerite chips too easily.
You're better off with a decent two pack paint as it dries flexible and coats thicker.
When I get round to doing mine I'm going to paint it gunmetal grey just so as its a bit different. Will also do the axles etc in the same colour.
Just my humble opinion.

like i said...dried on weetabix :D
 
I think Ill go with the weetabix. Since I brought this landrover ive killed the grass, the air smells of EP90 and divorce is imminent. Lovely!

Me Doris has just had a go at me and says that everyone will think we are pikeys, and that i should have used Marks and Spencer weetabix, NOT Asda!!!
