Ok I know the whole waxoyl thing has been covered before but i'm after some advice or opinions.

I've just finished thoroughly cleaning the underside of the disco and removing all the mud and stones etc from inside chassis members so I can waxoyl inside them.

The question is what to do with the outside of the chassis, it's in pretty good nick with only a small amount of surface rust just starting in some areas.
Ideally i'm looking for a thick black rubbery paint similar to the old underseal type stuff thats on there but with something in it to kill the rust so I can just spray it on without a load of prep work. I did think of chassis paint but i'd have to remove all the old rubbery/waxy stuff, which I really don't fancy.

Alternatively I just use the black waxoyl...

I did this to my 90 a few weeks ago, get a tin of Hammerite underseal with waxoil, 1litre will JUST about cover the whole thing, if like me you decide the self oiling chassis mechanism at the front is adequate 1litre will do.

This stuff is like tar in a tin, you can hold the tin upside down and it will not come out... it goes on with a brush, it is very good, it gives a much thicker coat than normal paint, it also stays slightly tacky, which is good because when stones hit it, it does not chip but rather allows the stone to bounce off it...

Its also quite good in that if you ware some gloves to apply it, you can take a bit in your hand and slap it on/into hard to reach places and along the top of the chassis where you cannot get access with a brush.

"Hammerite under-body seal with added waxoyl
Heavy duty protection for high impact areas.
Excellent corrosion resistance.
Remains flexible, will not crack or peel.
Super smooth application and free from gritty particles."

The thing is can it be applied over mild surface rust (without prep like normal hammerite) and also over patches of old underseal, looks like you can get it in aerosol or sprayable tins also.

Thats the stuff... great, just used some more there on my 90's new RH rear of tank outrigger.

Where I had to grind some off the chassis to put the welders earth on i got a good look at its thickness and durability which it indeed has.

You can get the tins, I bought the paint on version because the guy at the shop didn't have a price for it and gave it to me for a few quid as apposed to about £15. I bashed my chassis with a Shefield fine adjuster to knock off any heavy rust and painted it straight on, the waxoil helps to stop this rust continue and with it being covered up it cannot get moisture or air to let it continue.

I had painted my back cross memeber area with red oxide paint before, and I just painted this stuff ontop and so far no bleed through of rust like you can get with ordinary paints.

I am going to buy another tin this week infact.
