Changing engine in a p38

Hi, Im looking to change the engine on my 1995 4.6 to a deisel one,can I swop it without changing the gear box.
any help would be appreciated.

Well I think the BMW engine is ok, lots with starship mileage, smooth and for the time it was produced has decent power. Its a lot smoother and reliable than comparitive engines of the period, god my mates L200 with 36K and full service history is in for blown head gaskit, water pump and crank pulley and its only 6 years old, unless you mean fitting the Toyota or Nissan 4.2 engines and would not think that would be easy although one guy is doing this with a Nissan 4.2 into a classic on RR 4x4. Touch wood I have had no probs with mine and had an Omega years ago that was uber reliable.
