Hi,

the rear door lock on my series 3 land rover is locked and I dont have the key, I trying to keep the cost down and at the same time get a door locks sorted ASAP.

I want to change the barrel, but not sure how it comes off? is doesnt have a screw at the back, anyone know how i can get it out, or are there not meant to come out?

cheers

right dont think im being funny or trying to be fly here ( im honestly gonna try and help )

first what do you mean theres no screw on the back

do you mean on the back of the barrel ( internal side of the door ) it should have a metal plate screwed to the back of the barrell shaped like a christmas stocking

Hi mate,

no probs, yeah that what i meant. The barrells i have seen have a screw in the back that hold the stocking on....... the one that currently on looks like it has no way of coming off..... do i just tap it out with a hammer

reet gimmie a couple of hours te get evryone sorted n ready fer bed and ill do a thread on my passenger door barrell with piccies to show yer how i done mine fer free as all mine were siezed and 2 locks had no key due to it being snapped off in the passenger door wich i left coz i can lock it from inside

can you get a piccie as it could be one of the cheapo buggers that have been fitted with a force interfeirence fit

try getting hold of the plate with the grips/pliers etc and give it a wiggle just to see if it will move off the centre shaft

Can you try unlocking it with something else? Locks aren't the strong point. My dad opened a 90 once with his own key for the 110 and once was able to open a bedford van with a teaspoon:D.
I'm just thinking that with the door open it may be easier to work with.

Hi,

thanks all, much appreciated.

I can get the door open, as the door is uncloked, i just need tha ability to lock it.... if that makes sense. It looks fairly old... so poss orginal?

right it just so happens my passenger one with the snapped key is the same as you describe and i have the answer with piccies

its got a tapered pin through it side to side
on one side youll see a 1 mm hole and on the opposite there will be a pin in the hole flush with the surface you need to knock the pin out with a verry fine punch in the direction of the larger hole

insert a good hefty sewing needle through a wine bottle cork for handling purpouses and insert it into the hole on this side of the stocking

as you hit the bugger with a hammer it should come out of this hole on the other side (just visible at the end of the pencil)

once this pin is out the plate should just come off :D:D:D

ill do a full write up tomorrow coz it involves ****ting and noize ( kids are in bed ):(
