CB Radio

Hey guys. Wondered if anyone could share some info on how to wire up the CB radio power supply? (disco 1 300tdi argylle?) 1 power 1 earth, Can't find the fuse box? This is my first disco i've properly owned so would appreciate any help.

Also not sure where to position antenna, so any help there would be awesome!

tske power from cigarette lighter. best place for aerial is on rear quarter. but not easy to wire up due to double skinning.

fuse box under steering wheel.

inline fuse,

get a magmount and stick it on the roof??

Oh fusebox is under the steering wheel. 1/2 turn on the 2 screws.

Thanks guys. I've got a mag mount, it's not a turbo one though so I'm thinking it MAY fall off haha. Just trying to decide where to hide the mag mount wire.

thru 1 of the doors and under the edge of the roof lining. unscrew grab handles, tuck cable up and refit handles.

The run cable behind cover on A post.

Why?? worked for me when I had a magmount. just got knocked over a couple of times.

i was told to place antenna as near to the centre of the vehicle as possible? dont know why, so i plan on fitting mine the the centre of the light bar.

reason being if you put it at either end it will transmit farther the long way down the landy ie; if its on the back you will get longer distance towards the front than the rear . in the middle should give you a balanced output .

Hi,

Just got a CB myself, the reason for putting the aerial in the middle of the roof is to improve the constancy of coverage, lookup Ground Plane on Google. As the man said before, if the aerial it on the back of the roof the signal projects further forward, the reverse is true when putting it on the front.

A mag mount is great because you can take the thing off and hide it along with the radio so the thieving people don't knick it.

I got my radio from here (CB Radio Packs, CB Radio Kits, CB Kits, CB Starter Kits | THUNDERPOLE.co.uk) , they seem cheap enough and it worked ok, having said that I got the 1.55 meter aerial and the 7" mag mount, sticks on the car a treat, pops of it you hit anything, but it makes me car look like a radio controlled toy. But a tip is to tie the whip back to stop it catching as much, oh err.

The shorter aerial would have been better off road as it would still give about a 3-5 mile range. But a large aerial seemed to be right for a Landy.

I fitted one of these to my CB:

Car Accessory Plugs : Wiring Accessories : Maplin Electronics

It has an inline fuse (in case your CD doesn't).

I mounted my CB on the side of the center console (by my left knee). The cabling for my antenna runs underneath the compartment where the fuse box is an then up the inside of the door to the front of the drivers side gutter. I then bought a gutter mount and whip antenna (combo was around £20).

I can leave everything in play and can easily unscrew the antenna when it's not being used.

I fitted mine on the dash above the radio, and took my power supply from the radio one and the aerial is on the roof light bar, seems to work fine like that.

I run the aerial cable along the back of the dash tucked down out of site then down behind the cover on the A post and out through the door seal rubber up to the light bar.

Exactly what I've done. Not many people use CB where I live though
