I asked local LR agent about fitting an extra fuel tank to my 2005 Defender 110. They don't want to do this, saying that the addition of a filler inlet on RHS behind passenger door will "spoil the bodywork".
Instead, they suggest the frequently-found option of brackets for two jerry cans on the back door. That, of course, is where the spare wheel is. I don't want to put the spare, on the bonnet. Putting it on a roof rack is another possibility, but since it weighs 32 kg. and since, for the conditions under which I sometimes go off road, the maximum recommended total weight on the roof (including the rack itself) is 30 kg., I don't want the wheel up there, either.
LR here also talked about putting jerry-can racks on the sides (????) of the vehicle. I suppose that could be done (cans could fit alongside the rear windows), but I've never seen it and it would make for an awfully wide rear end.
Any thoughts?
