Hello all

This isn’t a question more of an interesting situation. I have recently given up smoking (This is something I’ve done many times in the past). To get your patches on prescription you have to visit the smoking clinic on a regular basis and blow into a carbon monoxide meter. This shows what levels of Carbon monoxide is in your blood. A heavy smoker goes into the red (about 30 on the scale). After a few weeks of not smoking the clinic would expect a reading of less than 5 for a none smoker.

My readings have levelled out as a light smoker (12 – 15 on the scale) they think I’m having crafty fags and deluding my self that I’m a none smoker. All the other times I’ve given up smoking it’s been 2 – 3 on the scale.

The only thing that’s changed in my life is I now drive a Land Rover 90. I don’t feel ill or get headaches or anything…. I’m assuming that all Land Rovers have more holes than a Yorkshire tea bag and smell like Land Rovers i.e. oil, dirt, smoke etc would you be worried? Would you do anything about it?

Cheers *cough* *cough* I’ll have to cut down my mileage

will power lad nevver mind yer patches get some will power.

after fookin years of smoking i gave up in one evening about 5 years ago.
i had ran oot of smokes and as outlets fer smokes are few and far between where i live and on a sunday night in winter that means anything up to 2 or 3 hours driving to find some. i just couldn't be arsed to go looking fer a open outlet, thinking i would rush out on monday morning.

ah dint and i still haven't.

so i stopped just like that, no patches, no chewing gum, no self help meetings just plain old fashioned bone idleness in that i couldn't be arsed going out to get some.

as fer yer landy being the source of yer high readings try getting one of them diy CO meters and leave it running in the cab while yer driving.
if you are getting a dose of CO that int good fer you and you might fall asleep while driving, which could kill you quicker than the odd fag.

Indeed. Thats exactly what I did. The mother-in-law had a Brittish Gas electronic monoxide alarm. I've been driving around with it for the past week or so without it warning me of any problems. But knowing British Gas it probably doesn't work.

I quite like the patches, especially the max strength ones. Wafting along with more nicotein in my system than when I smoked.....

I'll keep any eye on it for a while.

Cheers

Dave

When I first got this III the eggzorst was blowing unner the floor panels & the panels weren't that well screwed down. Cuz I was likely to carry me wee lad around at times I drove around for a couple of days with one o' them alarms that looks like a smoke alarm.

I'd noticed a bit of a smell on start up & fer the first few miles. First time with the meter in it the reading rose steadily to 62 whatevers then dropped once warmed up to nothing. Sorted out the blowing eggzorst & screwed the floor down properly & it's fine now.

Well there you go. A reading of 2 on the carbon monoxide extrapilator thing. A none smoker level. Be wary drivers everywhere, if it smells like fumes, it is.....

Thanks ;-)
