Evenin all, question about the old carbon canister.

I think I've had an issue for a wee while, but it's worse and needs fixed asap before I set my old girl near the multistory :eek:

Seriously, I am convinced my carbon canister needs replaced as I very often get hissing upon releasing the fuel filler and the air is definitely coming out of the tank (pressurised) as I have felt it.

The smell of raw petrol is worst after leaving the car for a while, inside is bloomin awful and that is thanks to a shower of bastards in Stirling who call themselves "professional" LPG installers :mad: I digress. But I still have one hole to fill under the rear seat....

So I can only come up with the carbon canister as the smell is much worse after running on LPG (which I recently reinstated and it runs beautifully). She also seems to use a fair old lump of petrol just starting & stopping (another result of a bad carbon can).

So, it's highly likely this carbon can has never been replaced.

Question is, has anyone done one and am I on the right track?

The reason I think it's worse running LPG is because the fuel initially starts the engine, then is shut off at the injectors, but still gets pumped around the circuit, which includes the carbon can, so fuel is getting hot and not burned off so of course it would involve the CC. Hot fuel creating more vapour causing the likely choked CC to have to vent it off as the tank will only hold so much pressure.

Am I close or talking pish :p

Where's best place to get a decent replacement then?? o_O

Maybe a duff EVAP canister purge valve. There always will be pressure in the tank but it should never be more than 1 psi. Pressurised vapour is stored in the carbon canister and when the engine is running vented into the manifold to be burned off when the pressure reaches .7 to 1 psi via the EVAP purge valve. Even running on LPG the petrol still warms and produces vapour pressure, as it is constantly circulated through the system, even if not being used.

Mine does exactly the same. Re pressure in the tank. The rate these use juice I don't think the pressure ever gets that high before a fill up.
 
Johnnyb70, my car mostly runs on LPG and the petrol tank gets filled for the purpose of starting the car on petrol. The smell gets into the cabin thanks to more holes under the back seat than sunk the Titanic o_O

Holes cut by a shower of LPG fitting bastards....

So if the EVAP purge valve is nowhere near the fuel tank, then I suspect perhaps a pipe is cracked or loose right at the fuel tank. No liquid is lost however :confused:, but the pressure is forced "out" of the filler cap when I loosen it :eek:
 
Since the smell is worst at the back and inside, I guess it may be a cracked line allowing vapour to leak out (into the cab via that hole). Def no liquid leakage that I can see...
 
Is there any chance the LPG expert's could have caught and damaged anything while digging for gold under the back seats?o_O

Not that I could find. After all, they did the damage years ago so no comeback and if I lived nearby I wouldn't go back would tell all to steer clear an orl :mad:

The tiny tank had the standard pump & hoses installed & I simply reinstalled them in the big tank. No damage found to fuel pipes & hoses. The tiny tank also blew off pressure when releasing the filler cap, so it's not a new phenomenon. It just smells a lot worse.
