I have e 2001 Land Rover Freelander 1 diesel, When I drive at over at or over 70mph (120kph) the accelerator gets stuck on full throttle giving out lots of black smoke, the pedal itself isnt stuck to the floor board, it like its on cruise control which I dont have

. if I push in the clutch it just revs like crazy and redlines. I then brake to under 60mph and it its stops and its back to normal, revs drops and no smoke. Its like the car goes on auto pilot... It`s frightening!

I know it`s not a physical link. It works through the computer. Could this be sorted out with tunning?

It drives fine until one drives over 65 to 70mph (130kph) then it it starts revving flat out, with black smoke....

Please Help.

Turbo is all good.. checked it out... not smoking under normal conditions... doesnt explain the car Accelerating by itself??

is the cruise control ECU fitted? (think under passanger seat although I could be wrong)

Perhaps someone tried to fit cruise, failed and removed the bits they could be arsed to remove.

any can ,but it wouldnt stop by braking

It doesnt... I brake and slows down then picks up again. then I play around with throttle & brake and then eventually it stops smoking and drives normally... luckily each time this happen the freeway was open

I dont know much about Freelanders.... do they have a cable or fly by wire?

I'd say sticking throttle body.

Check that out seems all good... like I said under 70mph drives perfectly no issues.. only when I drive on the freeway and go past 120kph...

I swear its possesed... however is possible that the oil level was too high which caused the engine to run itself?

As stated have you checked your crankcase filter, as it could be that as the engine pressure builds it is forcing oil through the turbo seals and causing the running on. What is your oil level are you using a lot as that as well would indicate the above. I once saw a defender that the seals had failed the engine only stopped when it had sucked all the oil out of the sump and seized the engine
