cant select any gears

Hi,im new to this site and need a little info on my freelander,i cant select any gears,when i try to select a gear it struggles to get in gear and grates like hell when i try reverse,and a hissing sound comes from the clutch pedal area i think its called a master cylinder.can any one help me many thanks.

the problem come from the clutch master cylinder

it's maybe loose somewhere, you certainly can fix it, unless it leak and will need replacement

If you have a Td4 you can top up the hydraulic fluid. If you have an older L-series or a K-series then you can't.

Yes you can!

Northern, you haven't said what freelander you have. If its a Td4 then chances are the slave or master have failed. If it's a 1.8 then it could be a siezed release arm, failed hydraulics or both. A siezed arm will kill the hydraulics due to excess strain on them.

How, I've always been told that its a sealed unit and needs replacing.
