Hi,

I have a 2.25 petrol S3 which has been leaking water under pressure. I changed the radiator hose which I though that cured it. yeah right! This morning I have spotted water spurting out of this hose, which is obviously the real problem. On further inspection it semms totally corroded and I need to replace it. I have uploaded a couple of pictures and wonder if someone could tell me what it's called/part number etc so I can order a replacement.

Forgive my ignorance, I'm still learning!

Thanks,

Andrew

It is the heater isolating valve, it controls the flow of water through the heater from the engine block. The principle is that the water heats up as it flows round the engine and cools as it goes through the radiator. It can be diverted through the heater matrix while it is still hot then hot air blows through the Landy through the large flexi hose by means of the heater fan. Hope this helps and has not insulted you if you knew this before.

Looks like 594629 to me.

Heater Hose - S3 (Heater Control V - Land Rover Part 594629

The assembly on the right of your pics that the pipe connects to, is the heater control valve.

If you're lucky enough to have a decent motor factor (and another car to take the old pipe in!) They should have some hose with the correct inside diameter as said above. if like me you only have Halfords limited stock nearby and open on a Saturday might be easier to order from the part number.

Thanks chaps, that's a great help. I think there were small leaks in the old rad hose and the heater hose. The new rad hose has probably compounded the leak through the heater hose.

Thanks again and don't worry Crashbox, I'm not insulted.... I know naathing.

If its all a bit dodgy them replace all the pipes and have done with it
You only find that by fixing 1 leak now the presure will find the next weak pipe and leak again next week anyway

Well, I've got a new heater hose and jubilee clips coming in the post. Removing the old hose seems hard work as it's a rigid "formed" hose and not flexible. In order to remove it from between the valve and the pipe do you loosen the nut on the backet securing the pipe to move the pipe away and thus allow the hose to be removed.

Sorry if this seems obvious to some of you. I googled it first but couldn't find the answer.

Hi Johnny Regis method is one way but another way is to undue the middle rocker cover nut and remover the bracket this should allow the copper pipe which runs along side the engine to move, simply from there undue the jubilie clips and gently ease the copper pipe backwards while pulling forward on the pipe and it should come off also close the valve when doing this seems stupid but you will lose your antifreeze and when putting the new pipe on smear a bit of grease on the inside of the pipe because it will go on much easier and come off next time much easier

That was my initial thought CJ. I wondered if loosening the nut and bracket on the rocker cover would give enough "play" to remove the hose.

I'll probably employ a combination of both!!

If you loosen the nut the bracket should slide out sideways - if there's enough flexibility left in the pipes.
