can i use any TDI engine in a conversion or does it have to be a disco?

Hi i have a wonderful series 3 2.25 Diesel but with commuting every day have found my wallet demonising so have given it some thought and a Conversion will be the best answer. just want some advice on the best engine or whether it has to be a disco or can i use some else would really like any help that can be given http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/images/smilies/confused.gif

There's no reason you couldn't use a defender engine if you could get a hold of one

best conversion would be the defender high turbo 200 tdi ,buyt they are rarer and more money hence the use of cheaper more abundant disco tdi

THANKS for the information looking around at engines and all the parts but a bit bewildered as to what i exactly need. just to say this is my first landy and want to make sure that i don't make big money mistakes.So would it be better to buy the vehicle with the donor engine and parts intact or just the engine plus what else would i need sorry for all the question but want to get it right

I would buy a donor then all the parts are there
