Good morning all,
I have been rewiring my Ninety, removing all the bailor twine and different cables that previous farmers have used over the years.
A) to make it neater and give me an idea of what's what.
B) so it doesn't spontaneously combust...
Fault 1)
I have however run into a problem, my fuel gauge used to bounce, so I tested the earth wires on the back of the binnacle to find 2.9V flowing through. But seemingly only happens when my lights are on, I checked my Wipac LED's to find 5v flowing through each earth from the back of each light, is this normal? To remedy this I separated the earths to their own points and it helped, reducing the current below what my meter could read.
Fault 2)
I have 12v coming from the earth to my number plate light (when turned on), despite the feed in being 12v when I turn my lights on... I have no clue why.
Fault 3)
When I turn my fog light on I have 2.9v flowing to the earth cables to the back of my binnacle wires.
Now, I have been getting tiny static shocks from my Landy and always attributed it to being black roofed in the sun, but perhaps it's actually the 5v and the 2.9v respectively flowing through my boots when I touch it!
It is also worth noting that all my auxiliary lights, gauges, switches etc are to a separate fuse board, which are ignition live, and are all earthed through that board so there can be no problems there.
My lights, side lights, indicators, fog lamp, fuel gauge, wipers and binnacle are all part of the Landy's main fuse board.
What on earth is going on?
If anyone could suggest my best course of action that would be great!
Thank you all!
