Hi all,

I'm about to buy my first discovery. I found a 98 5 door Discovery 1 with 127K on the clock. I've had it checked over by another landrover enthusiast who says its in good condition- no real rot and everything works. its advertised for £950 with a month MOT left. I've offered 750 which the seller has accepted. So I'm off for a final look tomorrow-is there any last minute thing I should check, any advice is appreciated.

Make sure it hasn't rusted away overnight!

Damp carpets or headlining?

Can't say much without knowing what engine.

Hi,
Its a 2.5L 300. Checked the roof lining all good no sign of damp/water stain.
Footwells are dry.
Last 2 MOTs are advisories for 1 worn bearing and pads worn.
I checked back the 4 MOTs he had no major things - no corrosion ones
either.

Go for it and enjoy it, you will love it and at that price you have nothing to loose

Same as any car realy check everything works and check for HG failure

Rust is the big thing on discos at £750 its cheap enough but with next to no mot id make a point of lifting the carpets under the back seats ,the boot floor carpet and in the foot wells

have a good poke round the edges next to the arches under the seats and under the 6th and 7th seats if it has them as thats where both my discos had the worst rot ,they sometimes look ok in the middle of the boot floor but can have hole at the sides

Boot floor is fairly easy, as its all from the top.

Have a good look at the sils / body mounts, as theyre more expensive and awkward to do than just buying a boot floor from paddocks.

Timing belt isnt expensive, but, if you have some evidence of that being done, at least youll know when to do it again.
