Hi being new here i have a few questions (sorry)
what should i be looking for when buying a discovery 1?
what mpg can i expect from a 300tdi?
and last what price is the road tax going to be?

the things to look for are, body rot: sills, boot floor, rear crossmemeber, front floors, inner wings and the seat belt mounts, also check the axle casings as its not unknown for the rear shock mounts to rust through and the diff pans to leak
check for timing belt changes at the correct intervals and that the serpentine belt doesn't chirp and scream

a 300 should give you 30+ mpg on a long run, won't be too hot round town and if you drive in low range (offroad) expect single figures

foad tax will be £205 at the moment
 
Dont rule out a v8 with lpg, diesel prices going up and up, v8 got more grunt ! And easier to get an auto if you want auto that is !

thats a daft idea......it would be stupidly complicated and would probably be put somewhere nobody could ever find it like the top of the page:doh:
 
If everyone searched for everything, no one would post on the forum, and the site would die, although silly questions like whats more car worth threads shouldnt be posted

The search engine on vBulletin is, to put it mildly, rubbish. Have you tried using it for common terms? It tends to produce hundreds of thread results, and 90% of those contain "do a fooking search" so are a bit rhetorical. Often its a case of you can't see the wood for the trees.

By all means if you have a proper suggestion for how to disseminate common themes, such as an enhancement of the search engine or a FAQ section which was updated to include these types of query, go ahead and suggest it. Suggesting the search engine is not the best advice, because the search engine isn't the best.

How about a link to the FAQs from the "new topic" entry page when their post count is less than 50, or registered date is less than 2 months? That would solve the problem, not that there is actually a problem really anyway.
 
I agree to an extent Paul...but the more info you put into the search the better...'buying advise (sic)' is very vague, as is 'tyre size' or 'starting problems'...the question is, is it necessary to search for these or just scroll back 4 or 5 pages in the relevent section as they are generally asked every other day.

The more threads the forum has on the same subject the more difficult it is to find ANYTHING!!
