I have not owned a Land Rover for many years, the last one being a S11 that gave amazing trouble free service for all the time I owned it. Time to buy another now but I have lost touch with LR scene. So, bearing in mind my complete dislike of anything electronic, especially ECU's which are great when they work and a complete disaster when they don't, which model would you folk out there suggest I buy? There are doubtless issues other than 'trons' to consider and I accept that it is probably now impossible to escape from electronics altogether. Walking everywhere is not an option by the way! Thanks.

Get another series landy.
They are still out there at reasonable prices and they still give good service.
Also remember the only electronics in a 2a or a 3 came in with the driver.

200tdi Disco or Defender. Economic and reasonably quick. If you intend using it a lot put in an o/d well worth the trouble.

I was told they were no good and only give a low mileage in comparison to the non turbo, because they were never designed a for a turbo, I am trying to establish whether there is any truth in that, What do you reckon, or what does any one reckon, I would like to here about peoples views on this subject, it is probably an impossible request, due to members love of there own particular landrover, but I would like to establish, a picture of reliability, engine life and anything else relevant to the N/A 2.5d and the 2.5 turbo diesel.

From what i hear the 2.5 N/A is better and lasts longer, dont know alot about the turbo.

I read that the turbo was an afterthought and it eventually takes the crank out because it was never designed to take the extra load/power. (I've got a lovely V8 series 3 stage 1 109 for sale, plenty of room for lpg tanks).
