Hi I am hoping to be purchasing a Range Rover shortly but I am confused about how the different models line up.

A 1998 vehicle seems to fit my price range and I am after a 4.6litre Petrol.

Am I right in thinking that the SE is the lowest, then comes the HSE then the VOGUE? The one I am interested says it's a VOGUE Limited Edition. How is the Limited Edition different from the normal Vogue.

I have spent days on Google, but cannot find this information.

Thanks

Paul

or here and click on the model & then click on 'equipment & options'

Land Rover Range Rover (94-02) Review - Parker's

Thank you. I had already been on Parker's and seen two of those links but the first one I had not seen before and it looks interesting. I don't quite understand how a VOGUE SE compares to a VOGUE LIMITED EDITION though. I guess a lot of things are options anyway so there is no way of knowing what any vehicle really has until you see it.

Thanks again

I would of thought if it was a Vogue Limited Edition it would probably be a special vehicle. Look for the Special Vehicle plate under the bonnet at the front next to the stickers that state the VIN etc.

Also, make sure that all the wood inside (if it has it, which it probably will do if its a Vogue) is NOT stick on stuff but the real thing.

I've just been to see it this morning, but I never thought to look for any markings under the bonnet. According to the Tesco insurance website, if I put in the REG it shows as "RANGE ROVER VOGUE 4.6 (98-98) SE AUTO 4552cc 5DR"

Parkers mentions a "30th Anniversary Limited Edition" If this RR is really is a limited edition would it be the 30 anniversay one.

Sorry to show my ignorance.

First off, what badge did it have on the back?? Autobiography, Vogue, Vogue SE, 4.6HSE, 4.6SE.

You know the reg from what you have said. I would try ringing Land Rover on Monday and asking them, they can usually tell you whether its a special vehicle or not. If the reg is personalised then you will need the VIN number of the vehicle which starts something along the lines of SALLPAMW3.......

Where abouts in the country are you?? If you are near then I wouldn't mind coming along with you look at the vehicle and help you out if you needed advice. If you aren't near then do you know anyone who knows Range Rovers?? It would be pretty advisable to take someone who knows them along with you when you look at it.

I think the 30th Anniversary editions had a little plaque thing on the inside on the wood strip above the gearbox saying what it was and what number out of how many it was.

County is an American spec. SE is "Basic", HSE has extras such as memory seats in leather etc. Vogue is above this with Satnav as standard etc. and Autobiography is custom made to suit buyers preferences e.g. flushing commode in drivers seat according to buyers needs. Then we have the special editions-Westminster and Holland & Holland. Overfinch and JE Hall are after market customising companies specialising in creating bespoke cars to suit buyers bank balances

Thanks for the offer, but my friend's father in-law is a member of a 4x4 club and is an "expert" (Heard that before). He's owned a couple of P38s and I am going again tomorrow with him. I will have a look at the V5 and see what that says.

Nothing too enlightening on the back. Just Vogue. It has some slight damage which luckily is all located on the bumper. The rest of the bodywork is clean

Looking at that photo there (assuming the tailgate hasnt been replaced for any reason) then its probably a 4.6 HSE or SE but then someone got creative, picked off the (H)SE lettering and instead stuck a Vogue badge there

True Vogues just have that Vogue badge and nothing else on them, i.e. NO 4.6 numbers. Also if it was a Vogue you would expect the boot button to be chrome rather than just black.

From the colour coded bumperit looks like a vogue but check out the interior trim etc. As far as I know the County was sold to the American market. As wills has said-check with a main dealer with the VIN before parting with any cash as ther are plenty of badges going on Egay.

Hmm. I am confused now. I had a look on autotrader at other "Vogues". As you say none have the 4.6 on and they have a chrome button for the tailgate. Although some 'Vogue SE' have a black button. The "VOGUE" badge on these cars seem to be all over the place. I would have thought Land Rover would stick them in one position.

I'm not sure what equipment is supposed to be on this model but I noted that the seats are electric with memory and the rear view mirror has auto dip. The speakers have Harmon Kardon badges on.

This is the dealers site.

Below is a photo from his site that shows the interior. From memory this appears to be what the actual car was like.

I have the VIN so I will call a main dealer tomorrow and see if they can shed any light.

im 99.9% sure thats not a Vogue. All Vogues I have ever seen have a wood centre facia with leather covered side panels, window switch pack would be wood, cubby box lid and sides would be colour coded to the interior as well. Also there would be a leather and wood steering wheel, leather inserts in the doors rather than cloth ones.

From the picture you have posted, as I said, Im pretty sure its NOT a Vogue. If you look on ebay at the moment there is a Vogue SE for sale...

2002 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VOGUE SE A LTD ETD on eBay, Land Rover Range Rover, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (item 230167466389 end time 11-Sep-07 18:46:38 BST)

If you look at how the interior looks on that you get an idea of how a Vogue should begin to look, for example the wood round the window switches and centre facia etc etc.

Either way I would walk away from that one you are looking at unless you can get it for a good price. If the person is lying about what it is what else might they lie about etc etc

Sorry if that isnt what you wanted to hear :(

I go along with Wills-it looks as though there's no satnav and I would have expected more wooden trim. I think it's an owner modded HSE. I have an HSE with memory seats and mirrors and the trim inside looks identical to this one. If it's a good motor, then why not use this as a haggling tool if you like it.
