Hi, I had a minor prang the other day and damaged the plastic panel that fits round the front towing eye on my Freelander 1 TD4 2006. The main dealer tells me I need to buy a complete unpainted bumper assembly for around 300 notes. Does no-one know of a more elegant solution.

Basically what's happened is the plastic bayonnet lugs each side have snapped off. Is it a glue and hope job or is the part available. See photo attached.

Have you got a soldering iron? If so, you can melt some ABS plastic (get black) to the parts that have broken off to aid retension.

It is quite possible to biuld up plastic parts this way, without the need for glue.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes I can lay my hands on a soldering Iron. The plastic tray is made of grey EPDM. I don't know much about bonding EPDM and ABS. I was hoping to locate a replacement part. Otherwise I might have to use silicone bathroom sealant.
Thanks again

once you've done the melting with the soldering iron use some of the backing gauze like Opti suggests - you can buy aluminium gauze - along with plenty of araldite but it has to be the 24 hour drying stuff (not the 1 hour drying as it's not strong enough). This will make a nice strong repair & you can sand & shape it if necessary once it's dry.

melted ABS is best, but I know Halfrauds to a plastic bumper repair compound (a bit like Isopon, but specifically for plastic bumpers. mite be worth looking at?
