We went to the Brooklands New Years meet, about 1000 classic cars and a good few Series. I think we were the most photographed Series, pity i have to add because we were parked behind the GT40 (replica) that seemed to get by far the most interest of all the cars there. So we will also be the Series photoshoped out of more pics than any other too!
I've been a few years and I like to see what gets the most interest, bear in mind there's some serious stuff there, blower Bentleys, any number of XK Jags etc. Last year it was an early 80's BWM coupe (low, lots of glass, very nice lines) this year it was the GT40 replica, no one seemed to mind it wasn't orginal, they just loved the shape. Intersting to the the next generation just walking past the MGTDs, XK and MK2 Jags and Vintage Bentleys and gathering round BWM 2002 Turbos and Pontiac Firebirds and the GT 40.
ps. A Thames van with a mid engine V8, really neat conversion, but why??

Sadly not but I'll see if any are posted on line. We couldn't actually see the GT40 until we got out; it was blotted out by the bonnet mounted spare. For a moment I thought they were looking at us!

Good work. I ended up at the Stoney Stratford vintage and classic show on New Years Day. Got there late just as it absolutely poured down. Got soaked through and cold, everyone left then we walked home. Bloody miserable it was too. Glad you had a better time of it. :D

The great thing about Brooklands is that there are a lot of buildings full of interesting things so there's always somewhere to retreat to. They've recenlty opend the "aircraft factory" (lottery funded) with really great activitiers for kids - bending sheet metal, closing rivets, sanding wood, design office, all themed on aricraft construction. There are loads of aircraft open and the bus museum (all inc) and if that's not enough you can just go and stare at the Napier Railton.
We did get caught at one pount but we have a Webasto so they went on while we had a brew. Inited 2 friends in to join us, best descibed as "cosy"; 3 adults, 1 boy, his bike, Lego, wet coats, wellies.....

Applogies for poor screen grab off web, but it proves we were there. This was as people were leaving so it must the the only time you could see the GT 40 for the crowd of on-lookers, earlier we had a nice Series1 next to us.

I did my apprenticeship on VC10s at Heathrow, one of my ex-apprentice mates is now a volunteer at Brooklands (that doesn't do him justice, he drives a very nice Ferrari now!)

This was taken late in the day so there are a lot of empty spaces, it was full to capcity by about 11 am. If you watch this on a smart phone don't do what i did which is spend the first minute wondering why they had posted a video of a van roof until I lifted my phone up off the table! (senior moment) It a bit like watching paint dry but the tech is intersting. I'll suggest next year they do it earlier in the day and perhaps speed it up a bit.

PS can anyone explain the technology please? I want an "age appropriate" answer - small words in little groups and no need to shout.
