What is it with British vehicles?

I am 47 years old and have owned over 30 vehicles
American, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Swedish, Brazilian and British.

Out of them all its the British that I look back on most fondly.

I have had a Mini, MGB, MGBGT,( the MG's were really fun) a couple Triumph motorbikes (still own a 1958 cub) and the latest is my Pumkin.

They all seem to be more fun to own and drive. Its always really hard to get rid of them.
I honestly think and hope that I will have my (90) Pumkin for the rest of my life and perhaps, later on, get another one for the Wife.

I think with the British vehicles, you get more involved. I know that with the Mini and MG's and Triumphs, I did all the maintenance on them. Mostly because they were so simple to work on.
Try that on a 1972 Volvo 164e, what a piece of **** that was.

And now my Defender 90. The more I get done to her the easier it is.
And what an absolute pleasure iit is to drive.

I think I may have started something on the island. There are 3 or 4 more Defenders AND someone has brought in 2 Series, an 88 and a 109.

I had never carried a vehicle on vacation. Always rented if I needed one.
Now I plan my vacations around carrying Pumkin.
So far she has been on 6 out island adventures with absolutely NO problems.

Seems that if I take care of her she will do the same for me.

Too much fun! :)

There are some great designs that have come out ot Britain, they usualy need a little tlc but get under your skin in a special kinda way...
I've got 2, they couldn't be more differant but at the same time very similar :)

Because british engineering is grass roots, we design our stuff in a shed and as such it can be fixed in a shed!! The germans are to clinical and lose the soul of a car, the americans havent understood that big isnt best (5L+ V8's pushing less than 200bhp, have a word someone), japanese cars are highly strung and devoid of any stylistic insperation and the rest just ain't british!!

Dunno bout anything else but Land Rovers are ****e in a way that makes you think that with a little more fettling it will be sorted and awesome.....but no....it'll still be ****e.

Can't imagine owning anything else

It'scos we're tight fisted arrogant ****ers. We refuse to invest in Anything. hence why the railways are fooked, the roads are fooked. the NHS is fooked, the car industry is fooked etc etc

And we're arrogant because we refuse to accept that wwe're fooked and that we make ****e products. it's never been a case of "look our products are crap. Lets improve them" Nope it's a case of "our products are fooked but it's the best your getting. Put up with it. " or here buy a brand new motorcycle and we'll give you a bespoke driptray to catch the oil that's ****ing out of it.

that was so last century.............. 300-375 hp in 5-9 liter engines now and more Pickups getting upto 400-450hp now

Very true but in Europe were pushing 280 from a 2.0. Don't get me wrong they are good engines the yanks make now but they still have the attitude of bigger is better which I personally don't like.... Plus they have only just realised IRS is better than live axles, we were doing that 30 years ago!
