went out greenlaning today and my brake pedal started to play up. basically all it did was travel a little further than it usually does before resistance was felt. if i came off it and pumped again i would feel resistance in the usual place. the pedal doesnt hit the floor, it just drops noticably more than usual.

later on i could smell what i beleive to be my brake pads burning. when i pump the brakes a bit i notice that the smell goes and all is back to normal.

on the way home it did this all the way. does this sound like a typical problem of a part? i looked on paddocks and there arnt many spares so i should be able to resolve it quickly.

i will check the fluid levels tomorrow but im guessing sticky seals on the master cylinder, causing pads to stick.

maybe? i dunno, im not a brake specialist!

Cheers,

G

sound like that to me. check front and rear brakes for debris etc...
then check master cyl for leaks.

i checked fluid and master for leaks earlier in the fading sunlight and couldnt see anything... havent washed it yet so that sounds like a possibility. lots of varied terrain on the North Wessex Downs. sticky chalk mud and fine gravel paths prob dont make a good mix.

i know how to check disks, how do i go about looking at the rear drums?

Cheers.

G

Seasy take the wheel off, unscrew the screw holding the drum in place and pull the drum off. If it won't come, hit it with a big hammer and keep hitting it till it comes off.
